Diamond Magnetometer Demo/Exploration
In this project, students are guided through a series of explorations of diamond magnetometry.  The first part of the manual contains complete instructions for setting up the optics, microwave and laser components of the magnetometer.  The next section provides a background in theory, detailing the quantum spin properties of NV rich diamonds and how fluorescence patterns are affected by external magnetic fields.  The remaining sections are guided explorations of magnetometry, and include spectrum matching and analysis, determination of dipole field strength as a function of distance, geometric analysis of NV alignments and calibration of the magnetometer.  The explorations are designed to target a wide range of physics students - middle school through undergraduate.
